A process is described for the preparation of gas- emitting bath-additive compositions which are preserved in stable form for long periods of time. These compositions include a carbonate, an organic acid and a stabilizer selected from magnesium oxide, sodium aluminate and a mixture thereof. The magnesium oxide and the sodium aluminate serve to improve the stable preservation of the bath additives when used in an amount of from 0.1 to 1.5% by weight of the total composition.
