Abstract

According to the present invention, silver is extracted from solutions containing copper (I) chloride complexes by passing the solution through a porous cathode (12) - as shown in Fig. 1 while the cathode (12) is maintained, for example with the aid of a potentiometer (16), at a predefined potential, essentially only silver being deposited on the cathode (12). Preferably, the porous cathode (12) is maintained at a potential in the range from 100 to 150 millivolt negative with respect to the potential of the calomel electrode, described as the reference electrode (17).
