Abstract

Electrochemical cell for general use comprises an alkali(ne earth) metal anode, or solid active cathode and a solvent contg. an organic electrolyte salt, includes a degassing system for the release of gas under pressure. At least 80 vol.% of the electrolyte consists of a volatile component having a b.pt. of 30-130 deg.C. - The cell is maintained practically without excess pressure. It is resistant to degradation and abuse. The operation of the cell ceases almost completely within a short period of time after degassing of the cell, thus avoiding conditions of degradation experienced in prior art which lead to a rise of temp. and possibly to inflammation. The cell is thus safer. (0/0)
