Abstract
Solar-energy installation with flat photocells for current generation and secondary absorber for the generation of process heat. The invention relates to a solar-energy installation with normal photocells directly exposed to solar radiation. The photocells may form a direct parabolic, cylindro- parabolic active surface or concentrator of any other kind including modular, or may be provided with a selective filter in any concentrating curved form covering the photocells. If the photocells directly form what will constitute the active reflecting surface, the selective filter panes will be stuck in the photocells as a protective glass layer. The selective filter is dimensioned so that it only lets through light wavelengths to the photocell with the highest degree of efficiency (e.g. visible light spectrum) whilst the selective filter reflects the remaining light spectrum (e.g. ultraviolet and infrared) which the photocells can barely convert or not at all. The photocell is therefore colder and thus functions with an improved degree of efficiency. The reflecting surface forming the photocells or the filters, as the case may be, is curved so that the incident rays of the sun reflected by it are concentrated into a focal line or a focal point. A secondary energy converter is provided at this focal point in the form of a thermal absorber or secondary solar cells for exploiting the reflected rays. Temperatures of several hundred degrees Centigrade can be reached in the thermal absorber due to the high concentration of secondary light and consequently can additionally supply valuable and usable process heat. The combination of electricity and usable heat generation increases the overall efficiency of the complete installation from 10-20% approx. to 30-40% thus clearly working out more economic than an installation supplying only electricity or only heat.
