Abstract
Esters of E-3-(5-(2'-desoxyuridinyl)) propenoic acid of formula (I) in which R is 1-3C alkyl, are prepd. by reaction of 5-iodo 2'-desoxyuridine with a 1-3C alkyl acrylate in an amine e.g. trimethylamine or triethylamine, in presence of catalyst consisting of triphenyl phosphine and a Pd (II) salt. The reaction is effected at a temp. near the b.pt. of the acrylate. - The resulting mixt. is treated with methanol or ethanol and sepd. by crystn.
