Abstract

Apparatus for growing grass or other crops hydroponically comprises an enclosed container having a base (10) with a sloping bottom wall (14) to define an area for receiving and retaining a layer of seed, without soil, a lamp (22) within the container cover (11) for artificially illuminating the interior of the container, and spray nozzles (23) for delivering water to the layer of seed, the cover (11) being removable, or having a removable section (11a), to permit removal from the container of crops grown from the seed. The bottom wall (14) of the base embodies an assembly (18) for heating and/or cooling the seed to promote growth.
