Abstract

DNA molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence corresp. to all or a portion of foot-and-mouth disease virus RNA (FMDV) is new. Recombinant DNA molecule comprises an operon having initiator sequences, terminator sequences and a nucleotide sequence coding for all or a part of at least one protein of FMDV, the nucleotide sequence being located between the initiator sequences and terminator sequences of the operon is new. Recombinant DNA cloning vehicle capable of expressing all or part of a protein of FMDV and comprising a recombinant DNA molecule as defined above is new. Host cell contg. at least one recombinant cloning vehicle as defined above is also new. The antigen produced by such a host cell is useful for stimulating prodn. of antibodies against FMDV in a mammal. Individual polypeptides equivalent to FMDV capsid proteins can be obtd., and serial synthesis of seVeral FMDV polypeptides as separate entities or as fusion prods. of parts of 2 or more proteins is achieved.
