Abstract
A method is proposed for producing light carriers in the form of grids, which are used for accommodating the electrochemically active substance of lead-acid accumulators. The substance carrier in this case consists of an electrical conductor in the form of a wire or of a grid which is stiffened by means of plastic, anchored and possibly divided into fields for accommodating the electrochemically active substance. In this case, the plastic is at least partially superimposed on parts of the electrical conductor from both sides, the plastic layer of the first side being connected to the plastic layer on the second side. In a preferred embodiment, a network consisting of plastic and/or metal is placed on one side of the electrical conductor and is attached to the electrical conductor by means of the said plastic. Metal-mesh grids are particularly suitable for use as electrical conductors and are preferably connected to one another in the form of a strip in the context of production of these substance carriers. A first layer of plastic strips which run parallel to one another is initially extruded onto an operating base (for example a conveyor belt) for advantageous manufacture of such substance carriers, the electrical conductor is then placed on this strip and the second layer of plastic strips is then supplied to the electrical conductor, and the superimposed (congruent) plastic strips are finally connected to one another by means of at least one stamping device, are anchored to the electrical conductor and are calibrated in height alternatively, a plastic mesh can also be added to the substance carrier before or after the electrical conductor is fitted.
