Abstract

An engine system contains an exhaust gas recirculation valve (16) and a fuel injection pump (12). A transducer (27) indicates the air flow to the internal combustion engine. An electronic control system (22, 24, 25) controls the fuel flow to the internal combustion engine. In addition to determining the adjustment of the exhaust gas recirculation valve (16) the air flow signal is also used for determining the maximum fuel quantity which can be delivered to the internal combustion engine.
