Abstract

A brush holder for motor vehicle generators comprises a brush housing (45) and fixed contacts (100, 110, 120) for associated stationary contacts (Figure 5 not shown) on a rectifier unit within the generator housing. The fixed contacts are connected to terminals (94, 95, 96) on voltage regulator (90) incorporated in the brush holder or are connected to a connecting device for a remote voltage regulator. At least one contact (110, 120) is knife type which, during mounting of the brush holder, is pivoted into a contact element on the rectifier unit. The arrangement facilitates incorporation of more fixed contacts in a given space. Additional fixed contact (110) can serve to insulate both poles of the voltage regulator (90). Additional fixed contact (120) may connect the positive terminal of the battery to the voltage regulator (90) (battery sensing). Cooling pate (92) has lugs (93) dissipating the heat to the surroundings.
