LA MEZCLA DE CRISTALES Y SUSTANCIA CARBONOSA SE INTRODUCE EN UN MOLDE QUE DISPONE DE MEDIOS PARA MANTENER UN VACIO PARCIAL Y PARA LA INTRODUCCION DE SILICIO FLUIDO EN LA CAVIDAD DEL MISMO. UNA VEZ LA MEZCLA EN EL MOLDE, SE SOMETE A UNA TEMPERATURA DE 1.400GC; A CONTINUACION SE AÑADE UNA CIERTA CANTIDAD DE SILICIO Y SE SOMETE A LA MASA SITUADA EN EL MOLDE A UN VACIO PARCIAL. EN TALES CIRCUNSTANCIAS SE HACE REACCIONAR EL SILICIO APORTADO CON EL CARBONO ELEMENTAL DE LA MEZCLA PARA FORMAR CARBURO DE SILICIO Y POSTERIORMENTE SE ENFRIA Y RECUPERA EL PRODUCTO OBTENIDO. ESTE COMPUESTO ES DE EMPLEO EN PRODUCTOS ABRASIVOS, HERRAMIENTAS DE CORTE Y, EN GENERAL, EN COMPONENTES QUE DEBAN SER RESISTENTES ALDESGASTE.
