Abstract
The truck 200 has a front and a rear wheelset 310,312 with axle ends rotatively carried in a front and rear steering arm 244, 246 respectively. The steering arms 244, 246 are carried in pedestal jaws 224 of a right and left side frame 208, 210 with resilient pads 232 interfacing between the steering arms 244, 246 and the side frames 208, 210. The resilient pads 232 allow each wheelset 310, 312 and steering arm 244, 246 to rotate or yaw to an out-of-square condition with respect to the side frames 208, 210 as the railroad car proceeds, for example, around a curve in the track on which the car is travelling. This rotational movement is selectively regulated by a joint 342 connecting the front and rear steering arms 244, 246 so as to permit relative independent movement of the steering arms 244, 246 up to a predetermined limit after which the arms move together. The joint 342 may also allow relative movement of the steering arms 244, 246 in the longitudinal direction of the truck 200.
