Abstract

Apparatus for facilitating assembly of basket arrangements for handling mechanical parts, which are pre-assembled by stacking separating, support and gripping members of synthetic material, a series of screw- threaded metal rods (4) which are provided with nuts (5a, b) at their ends passing through and clamping the stack, comprises mounted on a fixed frame (13), a compression chamber (12) of suitable dimensions for receiving the stack of pre-assembled members, the chamber being formed by the space between a stationary jaw (14) and a movable jaw (15) which is actuated by a fluid cylinder (21) for compressing the stack to a predetermined length (L). Nuts (5a) are held on one end of the rods by devices 29, the other nuts (5b) being screwed onto the rods at the jaw (14). The cylinder has an electrical or pneumatic safety circuit which may also control the nut screwing device(s).
