Abstract

A process for the preparation of hydrocarbonaceous resins starting from C5 hydrocarbon fractions is disclosed, wherein the C5 fraction is polymerized, alone or with one or more other hydrocarbons, in the presence of a homogeneous phase catalyst which is: an organo- aluminium compound an organo- aluminium compound combined with a halogen-containing cocatalyst which is a halogen, interhalogen, hydrogen halide, organic halide or a certain metal halide or a liquid complex of an aluminium halide, an aromatic hydrocarbon and an alkyl halide. The use of a homogeneous catalyst assists in the progress of the reaction and the monitoring of the reaction.
