Abstract
Ethylamines are sepd. by extracting a water, ethanol, di, tri and opt. monoethylamine mixt. with water and a water immiscible solvent which dissolves the triethylamine alone or the tri and diethylamine, but, not the monoethylamine and ethanol. The extracted mixt. is sepd. into an aq. layer contg. the ethanol and any monoethylamine opt. present, and a triethylamine contg. water immiscible solvent layer which is distilled. The diethylamine is distributed between the two layers and the extn. is done such that the diethylamine passes into either layer when it is a considerably proportion of the ethylamines mixt., or it passes mainly into the aq. phase when it is only a minor part of the mixt. The sepn. is easy without problems from azeotroping or narrow close boiling ranges.
