Abstract
An object of the present invention is to provide a new type of deboned fruit, such as olives, in which the fruit is divided into opposite sides of a plane transverse to an axis extending through the ends of the olive, give two parts separate extremes. It is still another object of this invention to provide such boneless fruit in which the loss of edible meat produced by the separation of bone is substantially less than that caused by the usual deboning techniques by cutting a core. To achieve these and other important objects, a method and an apparatus for preparing a fruit for packaging are described, according to which the fruit is aligned in such a way that an axis extending through the ends of the fruit is in general transverse to a cutting blade, the blade is applied to the fruit to cut in essence through the meat of the fruit transversely to the axis, to define two opposite extreme parts of the flesh of the fruit, the hole is taken and each one of such extreme parts is made to rotate the end parts in relation to the bone to release the bone from the end parts, and the bone and the end parts of the meat are released, thus providing two end parts of the flesh of the fruit, each of which extends from the cross section to one of the ends of the fruit and each of which is free of the bone.
