1-Methylisoguanosine is prepared by isolation from natural sources in a conventional manner or by a chemical process. 1-Methyl- isoguanosine can be used as muscle relaxant and/or as agent for influencing the central nervous system and/or as antiinflammatory and/or antiallergic and/or hypotensive agent.
