Abstract
A process for the separation of cefamycin c from the impurities of the fermentation broth consisting of: a) filtering a fermentation broth containing cefamycin c at a ph of about 1.8 to 2.5; b) passing the filtrate through a cation exchange resin, with a particle size comprised between the 30 to 60 mesh sieves of the us standards; c) washing the column with 1 or 2 bed volumes of water or a dilute aqueous stream containing a small amount of cefamycin c; d) displacing up to a bed volume with a 10% aqueous sodium chloride solution; e) eluting with the combined recirculating streams from the two previous steps, the ph of these recirculating streams being adjusted to a value between about 7 and about 8; and f) recovering the purified concentrated cefamycin c solution, the whole process being carried out at a temperature comprised between approximately 0 and 5º c.
