Abstract

Procedimiento para la producción de lentes de contacto de configuración cóncava-convexa, del tipo en donde la superficie cóncava se conforma sustancialmente a la córnea del ojo, caracterizado porque comprende las etapas de: (a) polimerizar, preferiblemente en masa, a temperaturas comprendidas entre la ambiente y 150ºC aproximadamente: (1) 93.8 a 51,8 en peso aproximadamente de un mono éster polimerizable de un ácido elegido entre ácido acrílico y ácido metacrílico y mezclas de los mismos y un alcohol polihídrico, (2) 1 a 6% en peso aproximadamente de ésteres mono etilenicamente insaturados elegidos entre acrilatos de alquilo, metacrilatos de alquilo, ésteres vinílicos de ácidos monocarboxílicos saturados de hasta 22 átomos de carbono y mezclas de los mismos, en donde el grupo alquilo del metacrilato o acrilato contiene de 1 a 22 átomos de carbono, (3) 5 a 40% en peso aproximadamente de compuestos N-vinílicos heterocíclicos polimerizables que contienen a menos un átomo de nitrógeno en el anillo y una funcionalidad carbonilo adyacente a un nitrógeno del anillo heterocíclico y (4) 0,2a 2,2% en peso aproximadamente de divinilbenceno y/o diviniltolueno; estando basados dichos porcentajes en el peso total de (1), (2), (3) y (4) de la mezcla polimerizable; (b) curar los copolímeros resultantes de la etapa (a), a temperaturas comprendidas entre 90 y 150ºC aproximadamente, para obtener una composición polimérica insoluble en agua pero hinchable en agua; © moldear el copolímero resultante para conformarlo a una lente de contacto de configuración cóncava-convexa, pudiéndose realizar opcionalmente dicha polimerización en un molde que tenga la cita configuración y (d) poner en contacto el material polimerizado con una solución acuosa fisiológicamente aceptable, para obtener materiales de tipo hidrogel y lixiviar los materiales solubles en agua que pudieran estar presentes, empleándose de 30 a 80% en peso aproximadamente de polímero y de 20a 70% en peso aproximadamente solución acuosa fisiológicamente aceptable , basado en el peso total de ambos materiales.
