Abstract

The invention relates to resilient coating or sealing of cracks, joints, defects in structures or parts of structures, employing a coating composition having high adhesive strength and high extensibility which, by means of painting and coating appliances, is applied in the form of at least one base layer on the basis of at least one polyacrylate dispersion and after drying has a top coat applied to it based on a synthetic-resin dispersion or solution. The base coating used is a structurally viscous, slightly thixotropic plastic dispersion which dries to form a colourless, permanently resilient film adhering to the surface and consists of 96-99 % by weight of at least one polyacrylate dispersion whose solids content is at least 48 % by weight, based on 100 % by weight of pure polyacrylate dispersion, whose minimum film formation temperature is at from approximately -2 DEG to +5 DEG C and whose dried film after being stored in water for 24 hours absorbs less than 12 % of water, and from 4.0 to 1.0 % by weight of one or more organochemical solvent(s) which swell(s) or solvate(s) the plastic particles present in the dispersion and have(has) an evaporation number above 10, or at least one additive, with the exception of fillers, pigments or opacifiers, or a mixture of at least one organochemical solvent and at least one additive, with the exception of fillers, pigments or opacifiers, and after drying a top coat is applied on the basis of at least one polyacrylate dispersion or solution or a poly(vinyl acetate) dispersion or solution, which, after drying-on, forms an elastic layer which is colourless or dries on with a dull surface. The method according to the invention is generally suitable, in particular, for sealing fair-faced brickwork, clinker facades, sand-lime brickwork, ceramic facings, patterned plaster and aggregate plaster, as well as of slabs of natural and synthetic stone.
