Abstract

Substantive sun-protective compsn., present as a stable oil-in-water emulsion, contains (a) 2-20% 5-12 (5-8)C alkyl, esp. pentyl- and/or octyl -p-dimethylamino-benzoate (I), liq. at 10 degrees C (b) 1-10% sun-protective water-insoluble benzophenone cpd., (II) (c) 2-30 (3-10)% surfactant and (d) 40-95 (60-85)% water. Ratio (a):(b) is pref. 1:1. esp. 2:1. so that sufficient (I) is available to dissolve (II). Compsns. are cosmetically elegant and may be used as sprays, foams, lotions or creams. (I) act as sun-protectors and as solvents for (II). A pref. compsn. contains 1-3% pentyl-p-dimethylamino-benzoate, 2-4% octyl-p-dimethylamino-benzoate and 1-3% (II), esp. 2-hydroxy-4-or 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone.
