Abstract
Improvements in reciprocating rotary combustión engines, characterized A) a hollow non-rotating support block element of substantially uniform configuration in cross section and of predetermined length adapted to be supported in an operative position, B) at least one cylinder supported on said block element so that the ends of said cylinder open towards the outside of said block element and inside said block element there is space externally with respect to the cylinder, said cylinder including opposed pistons with piston rods extending out from opposite ends of said cylinder, said piston rods being provided at their outer ends with follower bearing means to cooperate with a driven cam surface, C) a rotary output member mounted for rotation about said support block member and including a substantially round outer surface and a continuous inner driven cam surface for said cylinder, pistons and piston rods spaced from said support block, said cam surface being actuated in cooperation with said follower bearing means for rotating said outer member, D) said driven cam being configured to include predetermined arcuate areas of constant radius from the axis of the rotating member for at least radially opposed upper dead center positions for said pistons to allow predetermined time periods and degrees of rotation in which the camera between the pistons is at constant volume, said cam also providing at least radially opposed positions of bottom dead center, and E) said cylinder being provided with means for admitting fuel thereto, means for synchronized ignition of the fuel and further provided with air intake and gas exhaust manifolds and means for selectively opening and closing said cylinder towards said intake manifolds and escape.
