Abstract

Method for making a nodularizing catalyst, comprising: (a) preparing a shallow metallic mold part provided with an interior defined by a flat bottom and a peripheral side wall, the width and length of said interior being considerably greater than its height, (b) preparing a shallow metal mold cover adapted to fit with said mold part and include thereto, the inner surface forming a mold surface cooperating with the interior of said mold part, to define a mold cavity. Mold, the cover having a grid-like pattern constituted by ribs projected downwards, to define grooves in the molded product, ribs projecting into the said mold cavity in approximately half the depth of the mold cavity., and said cover also having a means that provides access to a load of molten catalyst, (c) pouring a load of molten catalyst into said covered mold, and allowing solidification thereof to form a homogeneous uniform alloy substantially free of segregation, and (d) after solidification, extract said part and said cover from said cast piece and break it along previously selected grooves in said casting part to define a desired form of catalyst according to the needs of a specific application of iron molten.
