Abstract

Process and reactor for the purification of synthetic calcium dihydrate sulphate with a view to transforming it into a semi-hydrated calcium sulphate usable in construction and in prefabrication, according to which the acidic impurities of the calcium sulphate dihydrate are destroyed by means of a compound of alkaline reaction, the process being characterized in that it comprises the steps of: putting the calcium sulfate synthetic dihydrate in suspension in water; contacting the suspension with an alkaline reaction compound in amount q chosen as a function of the p-ratio in fluorine of the calcium sulfate dihydrate, in a reactor provided with stirring means in order to make the reaction medium practically homogeneous; maintain contact for a period of time necessary for the chemical reaction; extract at least a part of the suspension; wash, filter and dry the obtained product; transforming said product into semi-hydrated calcium sulfate by means of a heat treatment; and collecting a neutral semi-hydrated calcium sulfate and having a setting time and mechanical strength at least as good as those of semi-hydrated calcium sulfates of natural origin.
