Improvements introduced in a process for the preparation of an adhesive composition, comprising the steps of: 1) forming a solution of a closulfonated polyethylene in at least one polymerizable acrylic or methacrylic monomer, said chlorosulfonated polyethylene contains about 25 to 70% by weight of chlorine and about 5 to 160 millimoles of sulphonyl chloride radical per 100 gm of polymer and being made of polyethylene having a melt index in the range of about 0.1 to 500 f/10 minutes and 2) combine with said solution 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of a polymerization catalyst of organic peraceous organic hydroperoxides and 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol, the weight ratio of said polymerization catalyst with respect to said phenol between about 1.1 to 4.1.
