Abstract

Procedure for the removal of monomers from aqueous polymer dispersions, characterized in that a) a cationic, anionic or nonionic surfactant, compatible with the monomers, is added to the aqueous dispersion of the polymer in an amount of approximately 0.01 to 1 % by weight, based on the solid substance content of the aqueous dispersion; b) the dispersion is heated to a temperature between the polymer freezing temperature and 120ºC, and is maintained at this temperature for approximately 1 to 4 hours; and c) the gases that are evolved, in such a case, are continuously evacuated from the aqueous dispersion.
