Abstract
A synchronous communications apparatus by means of current distribution lines, for communication between a central position and remote positions by means of current distribution lines, which may also conduct electric current at the distribution frequency, comprising: a source of a signal carrying a frequency that is a harmonic of half of said distribution frequency in said central position and in said remote positions, in the frequency range between 500 and 30 kHz to transport digital data; a source of a digital data signal at said center position and at said remote positions; means for establishing synchronism between each digital data signal and the frequency of the electric current carried by said distribution lines; means for modulating a carrier signal with each digital data signal; means for coupling the modulated carrier signal to said current distribution lines to transmit the modulated carrier signal through the distribution lines to a receiving means at each position, including demodulating means for demodulating the modulated carrier signal to recover the signal digital data carried by the modulated carrier; means, in each position, that couple the modulated carrier signal from the current distribution lines to said demodulator means; means for synchronizing the demodulating means with the electric current carried by said distribution lines to demodulate the modulated carrier signal received at the receiving position to retrieve the digital data carried by the modulated carrier signal; the origin of a digital data signal including said central position including means for providing a digital signal designating both a particular remote position for transmitting a digital data signal to said central position and the data bit rate for transmission thereof, that it is a subharmonic of the mentioned frequency of the current, or equal to the frequency itself; and means at each of said remote positions responsive to receiving a digital data control signal from said central position designating that remote position for transmitting a digital data signal to said central position to transmit a data signal digital to said central position to the designated bit rate of control which is a subharmonic of the frequency of the current or equal to said frequency.
