Abstract

Process for preparing solid, non-foamed compositions of urea-containing copolymers of silica; characterized in that it comprises forming an oil and water emulsion wherein the water phase comprises an aqueous solution of alkali metal silicate and the oil phase comprises a mixture of an organic polyisocyanate and a tar or bitumen reactive with isocyanate, wherein the ratio from nco groups to isocyanate-reactive groups is greater than 1, or the reaction product of an excess of an organic polyisocyanate with said tar or bitumen, whereby the reaction takes place between the nco groups and the water at the oil interface.
