Abstract

A process for odorizing liquefied natural gas, comprising the steps of: (a) forming a diluent solution with an odorant having a solidification point higher than the boiling point of liquefied natural gas, and a diluent having a point of solidification below the boiling point of liquefied natural gas, the proportion of diluent to odorant being such that the odorant remains in solution without precipitation when introduced into the liquefied natural gas; (b) cooling the solution to a temperature not less than a predetermined minimum temperature above the boiling point of liquefied natural gas, the predetermined minimum temperature being the temperature corresponding to that at which effective thermal stirring takes place to mix the solution odorant and diluent and liquefied natural gas; and (c) introducing the cooled solution into liquefied natural gas, in effective odorant amounts, to odorize liquefied natural gas.
