Process for preparing beta-nicotinyl-p-chlorophenoxy-alpha-isobutyrate, characterized by comprising the steps of: (a) diazoar aniline with sodium nitrite in the presence of aqueous hydrochloric acid at 0º -8ºC to obtain phenyl diazonium chloride; (b) reacting the phenyl diazonium chloride resulting from step (a) with beta-picolylamine in the presence of a hydrochloric acid acceptor in an aqueous reaction medium containing an organic solvent immiscible with water, at a temperature of - 5ºC to + 20ºC to obtain 1-phenyl-3- (beta-methylene pyridyl) -triacene in its dissolved form in said organic solvent; (c) reacting the resulting organic solution of the triazene with p-chlorophenoxy-alpha-isobutyric acid to obtain beta-nicotinyl-p-chlorophenoxy-alpha-isobutyrate; Proceeding finally to a further recovery step of the excess aniline of the reaction.
