Abstract

A process for the preparation of a modified polymer from a homopolymer or copolymer of a conjugated diene, a process that comprises mixing the original diene polymer in solid state at a temperature between 40ºC and 140ºC with 0.01 to 5% by weight of an aromatic monosulfonyl azide containing one or more carboxyl groups attached to the aromatic nucleus and having a melting point below 140ºC (step A), and heating the resulting mixture in a solid state to a temperature between 140ºC and 250ºC during minus 30 seconds and a maximum of 10 minutes (stage B).
