A process for preparing a modified hydrocarbon polymer, which comprises adding to a hydrocarbon polymer from 0.001 to 20% by weight, based on the polymer, of a mixed anhydride of an organic sulfonylazide with at least one carboxyl group, then hydrolyzing the anhydride, and heating the mixture to a temperature higher than 50ºC.
