Un procedimiento para regular el crecimiento de la vegetación, que comprende el aplicar al punto o lugar en el que se desea ejercer un control una cantidad herbicidamente efectiva del compuesto de la fórmula **(Fórmula)** en que X es oxigeno o azufre; y es oxígeno o azufre; R es alkilo, alkenilo, vinolexialkilo, alkilotioalkilo, alkiloxialkilo y cetoalkilo; R1 es hidrógeno o alkilo bajo; R2 es alkilo bajo, alkoxifenilo, alkenilo, cicloalkilo y fenilo; siempre y cuando X sea oxígeno, Y sea oxígeno, R sea alkilo conteniendo de 1 a 3 átomos de carbono, Y R1 sea hidrógeno o alkilo bajo, entonces R2 es distinto del alkilo bajo que contiene de 1 a 4 átomos de carbono.
