Abstract

A method of preparing cyclic olefins and cyclic diolefins, comprising heating at least one acyclic diolefin from the group consisting of methyl-substituted acyclic pentadiene, acyclic pentadiene, to temperatures of about 550 to 800ºC, while said acyclic diolefin is in contact with the homogeneous catalyst chosen from the group consisting of hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, ethyl mercaptan, ammonium sulfide, ammonium sulfate, hydrogen bromide, ammonium bromide, dibromomethane, bromochloromethane, allyl bromide, bromine, iodide of hydrogen, iodomethane, iodine, ammonium iodide, carbon bisulfide, dimethyl bisulfide and carbonyl sulfide.
