Procedure for obtaining ortho-substituted phenoxy-amines, of general formula: ** (See formula) ** wherein R1 represents an aliphatic, aliphatic, saturated hydrocarbon radical containing at least 5 carbon atoms and preferably from 5 to 8 carbon atoms; Y represents either (a) an aminoalkyl group of the formula -Alk-NR2 R3, in which R2 and R3 each represent a lower alkyl group, or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated heterocyclic group and "Alk" represents an aliphatic, saturated hydrocarbon group containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, the free valences being located at different carbon atoms; or (B) an amino-cyclic group of the formula (see formula) in which n is 0 to 3 and Z is a group containing at least one nitrogen atom and at least 4 carbon atoms, with any of said nitrogen atoms being separated from the oxygen atom, to which it is attached the amino-cyclic group, through a chain of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; y represents a hydrogen, or halogen atom or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group; characterized by comprising converting an ortho-acylphenol of formula: ** (See formula) ** to a compound of formula: ** (See formula) ** reducing the carbonyl group of the compound of formula (VIII) to a carbinol group thereby forming a compound of formula: ** (See formula) ** and converting the compound of formula (VAT) to the desired compound of formula I.
