Abstract

Water-insoluble monoazo dyestuffs have the general formula wherein rings A and B may be further substituted. Suitable, substituents include fluorine, chlorine, bromine atoms, and trifluoromethyl, cyano alkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy or nitro groups. Particularly preferred dyes have the formula wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen or one of the above mentioned substituents. Advantageously R 1 is methyl or methoxy and each of R 2 , R 3 and R 4 is hydrogen. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazo component of formula with 2,6-dihydroxy-3-cyano-4-methyl-pyridine. The dyes give yellow shades on synthetic fibre materials e.g. polyesters, polyolefines or polyvinyl compounds.
