A photographic preparation method including the step of treating a silver image-bearing photographic material with an aqueous bleach-fixative composition comprising: (a) a silver bleaching agent having an ammonium or amine cation and an anion which it comprises FeIII, CoIII, or CuII complexed with a polyvalent ligand, (b) an amine to ammonium thiosulfate and (c) an amine or ammonium salt that provides sulfite ions in aqueous solution, the composition being substantially free of alkali metal ions.
