Abstract
A procedure to reduce the formation of color and the solubilization of the biological oxygen demand in the thermal treatment of residual agitation mud to improve its dehydration characteristics by heating said mud, characterized by rapidly heating mud for up to approximately 240 seconds at a temperature between approximately 190ºC and approximately 230ºC, the heating period being inversely proportional to the selected temperature and just enough to increase the suitability of the mud to be filtered up to at least 48.8 kg/m2/hour in the case of primary mud and 14, 6 kg/m2/hour for activated deferred sludge, and cool the sludge before excessive degrees of color develop in the supernatant liquid.
