Abstract
A process for producing medium to low carbon ferromanganese, comprising: introducing a solid, particulate, partially reduced manganese ore together with lime and intermediate silicon alloy into an electric arc furnace; applying electrical energy to the electric furnace, to provide sufficient heat thereto to cause reduction of the manganese ore by the intermediate alloy, and thereby produce medium to low carbon ferromanganese alloy, and slag; and separating the slag and the ferromanganese alloy.
