Abstract
A method of purifying gas mixtures of acidic compounds, essentially of removing carbon dioxide and other acid gases from gas mixtures containing them by an absorption step in which the gas mixture is washed with an absorbent solution of appropriate chemical composition and a regeneration stage in which carbon dioxide and other acid gases are expelled and in which the heat contained in the solution is also used, characterized by the fact that the heat contained in the solution is taken into account again when passing the solution through separate and successive regeneration zones and by expanding it by virtue of pressure reduction, whereby a gaseous mixture of water vapor and carbon dioxide is removed from the solution and passes, together with it, through regeneration zones; also due to the fact that the number and size of these zones and the contact expected within them are such as to promote the full utilization of the desorbing action of the water vapor contained in excess in the gas mixture extracted by expansion for the desorption of the further carbon dioxide in the solution; and finally due to the fact that the aforementioned mixture of water vapor and carbon dioxide is discharged to the last of the area in which the partial pressure of carbon dioxide exceeds the partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the solution in subsequent areas .
