Abstract

A triac 7 is connected in series with the starting winding 3 of a single-phase asynchronous motor and its control electrode 8 is connected to that end 10 of the winching 3 remote from the triac by way of a PTC resistor 9. The triac 7 is triggered when the motor is switched on, the resistor 9 being heated in accordance with the supply voltage until its resistance becomes sufficient to render the triac non- conductive, so de-energizing the starting winding. A shunt resistor 11 may be arranged to form a voltage divider with the resistor 9. A case 13 for the motor and associated apparatus has two connection holes 14 only.
