Abstract

A moisture separating and steam reheating apparatus comprises a tubular casing 12 containing partitions 18, 19 adjoining moisture separators 23, 24 the partitions and separators dividing the casing into moist steam collecting chambers 15, 16 having moist steam distribution means 28, 29 supplied through inlet 26, and a central moisture-free steam collecting chamber 17 containing reheaters 32, 33 to heat demoisturised steam to a dry and superheated state, the superheated steam discharging through an outlet 45. Moist steam from inlet 26 passes through manifolds 28, 29 to be distributed in a plurality of jets through openings 30, 31 which jets impinge on the casing 12 causing initial moisture separation. Remaining moisture is removed by impingement, on an array of horizontally spaced V-shaped plate members 47 which form the separators 23, 24, the moisture drops then flow through outlet 43 as shown by the broken arrows. Moisture-free steam passes through reheaters 32, 33 formed by the U-tubes 34 which use as the heating medium steam fed through an inlet 40. In another embodiment. Fig. 4 (not shown), each separating structure is formed from two overlapping plate arrays and the reheater comprises a single bundle of tubes (56).
