Abstract
In a process for continuously fixing and shrinking tow of uncrimped filaments in the absence of tension, the yarn is injected by means of a compressible fluid from a rotating injector, whose yarn outlet opening is eccentric relative to its axis of rotation, into a treatment zone, the yarn being subjected to a fixing and shrinking treatment in the treatment zone and guided therefrom to a winding means. As shown the tow 3 is delivered to the injector 1 in the direction of arrow "A". The injector is supplied through pipe 2 with a compressible fluid, e.g. air, flowing in the direction of arrow "C". The injector 1 is rotated in known manner, for example, by a belt 5. The tow 3 and the air are delivered preferably obliquely downwards towards the inner wall of the tube 6 through the eccentrically positioned yarn-outlet opening 4. The air can escape through the openings in the direction of the arrows "D". The tow 3 is deposited helically in layers and moves under its own weight or the weight of following tow through the heating zone whose temperature is sufficient to effect fixing and shrinkage. The heating system 8 is supplied with a heating medium which flows in the direction of arrows "E", and "F". The lower end 611 of the tube forms an angle [alpha] with the upper end 61, termed the bending angle which is preferably greater than 90 degrees. The fixed set and shrunk cable accumulates in the bend 61 of the tube before being drawn off in the direction of the arrow "B".
