Abstract

Compositions suitable for electroplating comprise a polyolefin and 1 to 50 weight per cent of a metal resinate. Specified polymers are polypropylene, polyethylene, polybutene-1, poly-4- methyl - pentene - 1, poly - 3 - methylbutene - 1, copolymers of ethylene with propylene or butene-1, and copolymers of olefins with acrylic monomers and vinyl acetate. The compositions may also comprise a surfactant, an organic sulphur compound and fillers, e.g. asbestos and glass fibres, carbon, silica, talc and alkaline earth metal salts. The compositions may be formed into articles and subjected to conventional cleaning, etching, activating chemical plating and electroplating treatments. Examples describe compositions comprising titanium dioxide, isooctylphenol/ethylene oxide condensates and dilauryl thiodipropionate together with (1 and 4 to 13) polypropylene and calcium resinate, (2) ethylene/propylene terminal block copolymer and calcium resinate, (3) polyethylene and calcium resinate and (14) polypropylene and zinc resinate and polypropylene together with (15) calcium resinate, titanium dioxide and isooctylphenol/ethylene oxide condensate and (16) calcium resinate.
