Abstract
A weft measuring device comprises a number of levers 24 which pivot in succession to draw the weft into loops and which return in succession to their original position to leave the loops unsupported for easier picking. The levers are cam operated and then ends 30 protrude through slots in a box whose wall is curved and has a cover 32 with abutments 38b providing channels 33 into which the weft is drawn by the levers 24, the curved shape of the channels enabling the weft to remain, by its own weight, in loops when the levers retract. The weft is held by a clamp 39 during drawing into loops and picking commences whilst the last levers are drawing loops, continues when all levers have retracted thus drawing weft directly from the supply, whereupon a clamp 17 closes. Prior to the next measuring operation an additional lever 24z outside the clamp 39, may pull back the weft in the shed. The weft during picking is tensioned by a brake 18. A number of the devices may operate on a loom having weft selection.
