Abstract
In a vehicle wheel suspension using a flexible longitudinal torsion bar 5, the wheel 2 is pivotally connected at 3 to one end of an arm 1 rigidly assembled (e.g. by welding) at its other end to one end of the torsion bar which is secured at its other end to the vehicle body, and a bearing 9 permitting rotation of the bar and pivotal movement of the axis XX1 thereof about the bearing centre is provided at one side of the arm-to-bar connection. Forces F applied to the wheel cause flexion of the bar axis, e.g. to position X 1 X1, and movement of the wheel pivot point 3 about the centre of the bearing in the direction of arrows 101. The arm may be perpendicular to the bar (Fig. 1, not shown) or inclined thereto, the wheel pivot point 3 lying in a plane perpendicular to the torsion bar through the centre of the bearing. A second bearing may be juxtaposed to the first to limit the floxion of the bar.
