Abstract

The width-controlling members 4 of a floatglass apparatus incorporate a slit 7 to which negative or positive gas pressure (preferably nitrogen or other non-oxidizing gas) can be applied to reduce friction and minimize edge distortion of the glass ribbon. In addition suction may be applied through the material (preferably porous graphite 15) of the widthcontrolling member to prevent lateral shrinkage of the glass. Coolant is admitted to the metal box 9.
