A process for the manufacture of isopropyl alcohol which consists in reacting propylene with water in the presence of a hydration catalyst in a hydration zone maintained at an elevated temperature and above atmospheric pressure to obtain exit vapors containing isopropyl alcohol, propylene not reacting and water, cooling the exit vapors to practically said above-atmospheric pressure in a condensation zone at a temperature at least higher than the condensation point of propylene to obtain a condensate composed of isopropyl alcohol and water and non-condensed vapors propylene compounds and a small proportion of isopropyl alcohol, contacting said non-condensed vapors with an aqueous liquid stream in a washing zone maintained at a temperature at least higher than the condensation point of propylene, and recycling said vapors washed to the hydration zone.
