Abstract
The invention comprises the compound of formula in its racemic or optically active forms, and acid addition salts thereof. The compound may be prepared by (a) reacting (2-cyanophenoxymethyl) oxiran (I) or its halohydrin (II) with N,N1-diisopropylurea or isopropylamine (b) reacting 3 - (2 - cyanophenoxy) - propen - 2 - olamine (III) with e.g. an isopropyl halide or acetone/H 2 (c) hydrolysis of its derivative (e.g. an acetal) in which the -OH group is protected (d) hydrolysis of 5-(2-cyanophenoxymethyl) - 3 - isopropyloxazolidin - 2 - one (IV) (e) hydrolysis or pyrolysis of its N-carbamyl derivative (f) hydrolysis or hydrogenolysis of its (e.g. benzyl or acetyl) derivative in which the -NH group is otherwise protected (g) diazotization of the 2-aminophenyl analogue (V), and heating the product with CuCN. Starting materials-I, prepared from 2- hydroxybenzonitrile and epichlorohydrin, is converted to II with hydrohalic acid, to III with NH 3 , and to IV with ethyl N-isopropylcarbamate. The tetrahydropyranyl ether of the title compound is prepared from II tetrahydropyranyl ether and isopropylamine V is prepared by reduction of the 2-nitrophenyl analogue of the title compound, itself obtained from (2-nitrophenoxymethyl) oxiran and isopropylamine.
