Abstract
In a process for the regeneration and reactivation of a deactivated supported chlorinated Pt group metal catalyst which has been used for hydrocarbon convension, carbonaceous deposits are removed at 370-450 C., with a gas containing oxygen, the catalyst is maintained at a higher temperature (but not in excess of 550 C) in the presence of a gas having a higher oxygen content and thereafter the catalyst is rechlorinated by treatment with chlorine to an extent exceeding the chlorine treatment, if any, normally effected during operation of the conversion process, for a period of at most 24 hours immediately after operation of the convension process has been resumed. Additionally the catalyst may be subjected to treatment with CS 2 or HgS. The source of chlorine may be trichloroethylene or ethylene dichloride. Examples describe the regeneration of a Pt on A1 2 O 3 catalyst containing 0.9% of chlorine.
